Praying: Finding Our Way Through Duty to Delight
Praying by J. I. Packer and Carolyn Nystrom is, to put it bluntly, quite superb. Written with the theological passion to be expected from Packer, and with the delightful prose of Carolyn Nystrom, it is destined to become a standard work on the subject. `Praying’ the authors state `is an action’ and in this book the reader will find much to ponder and much that will change not simply how they think about prayer, but how they actually pray. While many books on prayer can leave the reader feeling inadequate or overwhelmed by the task before them, Packer and Nystrom show how prayer is rooted in the saving action of God, and how it is to be of the very essence of what it means to be a Christian. Facing the typical issues which all Christians face when coming to prayer, from inattentiveness to lack of persistence, the authors bind together theology and practice in a way that is both challenging and deeply moving.
